When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment, players can compare the level of an item. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it's able to deal. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a vendor. The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its level. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat. There are several theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory says that the level of an item is determined by a formula that calculates the value of an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value, and also that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is more useful in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains. Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading that increase with each item level. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140. Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by five percent. These items can be bought from the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients. Item Failure Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it does not work. When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%.. The luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an initial success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%. The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
